Sensible 4 Begin Using DAWN™ Automated Driving Software Platform in Industrial Vehicles
Automated driving technology company Sensible 4 begins commercial operations within the industrial segment using its automated driving software platform DAWN™.
8.11.2022 Finland Automated driving technology company Sensible 4 begins commercial operations within the industrial segment using its automated driving software platform DAWN™.
"We know that the legislation and technology needed for automated vehicles to operate autonomously on public roads, without a safety driver on board, will still take time to establish", says Harri Santamala, CEO of Sensible. He continues: "The key benefit of the industrial site is that it's a closed environment, so customers can realise the benefit of our technology today. DAWN™ is ideally suited to the challenges of the industrial environment, where solutions have to thrive in changing and challenging weather, such as sun, rain, wind, and snow. Further, our ability to operate without road markings, in daylight, and darkness, enables site operators to reliably increase their productivity."
The dump truck market alone is worth up to $25 billion. The growing shortage of drivers is affecting the transportation industry across the world. Today, there is a 20% shortage of truck drivers in Europe, by 2028 there will be a shortage of 280,000 truck drivers in Japan. An automated truck brings more flexibility and predictability to the operation which is repetitive - pick up, drive, dump - repeat.
An automated fleet of vehicles enables on-demand or continuous operations, whilst reducing operating costs and increasing productivity. Because of automation, more vehicles don't lead to increased driver costs. Some operations, that currently run with heavy haul trucks, can be replaced by a larger fleet of smaller, fuel-efficient electric trucks. The commercial viability is why automated trucks are operating in industrial sites.
"We're delighted to take DAWN™ to a live industrial site where we've begun automated truck operations, together with a major truck manufacturer and their customer. Our automated driving software has proven its suitability and capability within the industrial site and we've been able to adapt it further to suit the specific needs of the customer. The future of DAWN™ within the industrial environment is incredibly exciting. We look forward to partnering with more customers in the industrial space."

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs
Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
