PTC’s new Onshape addition to boost collaboration between design and production
A new addition to Onshape’s suite of cloud-native features is promising to streamline the connection between design and production workflows.
PTC, one of the UK's leading authorities on digital transformation and design, has announced the launch of CAM Studio Beta, which integrates CAD, Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Product Data Management (PDM) to give design and manufacturing teams the opportunity to plan, simulate, and collaborate on machining processes.
This release offers a complete design-to-manufacturing solution, enhancing productivity and creating new opportunities for leading manufacturing brands across the globe.
"With the release of CAM Studio directly into Onshape's cloud-native platform, users gain built-in version control and centralised storage for their manufacturing strategies," commented David Katzman, General Manager of Onshape and Arena at PTC.
"This ensures seamless collaboration, eliminates the risks of file-based workflows, and provides unmatched traceability throughout the design-to-manufacturing process. CAM Studio reinforces our commitment to empowering teams with tools that enhance productivity and drive innovation."
CAM Studio supports 2.5 and basic 3-axis machining, with the most common manufacturing strategies and machines. For users with advanced manufacturing needs, CAM Studio Advanced will offer enhanced capabilities, including advanced 3, 4 and 5-axis machining strategies.
Other features and benefits of Onshape CAM Studio include:
• Access to the latest manufacturing information faster, while utilising Onshape's built-in PDM functionality for G-code and tooling strategies
• Streamlined communication and easy sharing between CAD designers and manufacturing engineers
• All stakeholders work from a single source of truth, saving time and money while also reducing manufacturing errors
• No additional software installations, licensing costs or administrative costs
• Cloud-native accessibility anytime, anywhere
CAM Studio is now available to Onshape users who are subscribed to the Professional and Enterprise plans.

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection
The FLIR Si1-LD is an easy-to-use acoustic imaging camera for locating and quantifying pressurized leaks in compressed air systems. This lightweight, one-handed camera is designed to help maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering professionals identify air leaks faster than with traditional methods. Built with a carefully constructed array of MEMS microphones for high sensitivity, the Si1-LD produces a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in loud, industrial environments. The acoustic image is overlaid in real time on a digital image, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the source of the sound, with onboard analytics which quantify the losses being incurred. The Si1-LD features a plugin that enables you to import acoustic images to FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced report creation. Field analysis and reporting can also be done using the FLIR Acoustic Camera Viewer cloud service. Transferring of images can be managed via memory stick or USB data cable. Through a regular maintenance routine, the FLIR Si1-LD can help facilities reduce their environmental impact and save money on utility bills.
