T.J. Davies Inaugural Toys For Tots Campaign A Huge Success

The industry leading manufacturer of retention knobs began collecting items in early November; the campaign was so successful that two pickups were conducted. In addition to items donated by the companies’ employees, vendors, and customers, there were many donations from people who saw the banner outside the Mantua, OH factory.

Mantua, OH - T.J. Davies Company, Inc recently held their first Toys For Tots toy drive, and collected hundreds of toys, books, and other gifts for local children in need. The industry leading manufacturer of retention knobs began collecting items in early November; the campaign was so successful that two pickups were conducted. In addition to items donated by the companies' employees, vendors, and customers, there were many donations from people who saw the banner outside the Mantua, OH factory.


Both Christmas and the military have a special place in the heart of TJ Davies' President Sherry Davies, whose father was a veteran. "Every child should have a present to open at Christmas, so we decided to engage with the Toys For Tots program," said Davies. "I am amazed by peoples' generosity. It didn't take long for our conference room to be overtaken with gifts that were soon spilling over into other areas of the office!"

Davies promoted the program and their collection through their various social media channels, as well as with a banner hanging outside the factory, attracting the interest of folks passing by on heavily travelled State Route 44.

Even though the final pickup just occurred, Davies is already planning next year's campaign. She plans to start collecting gifts when the toy drive officially kicks off, which is October 1, and to promote the earlier and with more signage.

This Toys For Tots toy drive is just one example of the civic minded nature of the company. Earlier in the year they also sponsored the Emerging Engineer Camp hosted by the Kent State University College of Aeronautics and Engineering, providing students interested in Engineering with a firsthand look at the industry, as well as many local philanthropic events and activities.

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
