A New Era of FANUC’s ROBODRILL Vertical Machining Center with More Offerings than Ever

The new FANUC ROBODRILL α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 features a larger table, more tools, new capabilities, all in the same space-saving footprint.

FANUC America, a global industrial automation leader, unveils the latest addition to FANUC's ROBODRILL vertical machining center (VMC) lineup, the new α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500. This new VMC offers more advantages to any production machine shop by featuring a larger table, shorter drilling and tapping cycles as well as more tools coupled with faster tool changes. FANUC America will be introducing the new ROBODRILL α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 at the 2024 International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago, IL., Sept. 9-14 in booth S-338919.

FANUC's ROBODRILL α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 is designed for peak performance covering a wide range of tasks and excelling at machining large workpieces. This is due to its extended Y-axis stroke (500 mm) and increased table size, all without increasing the ROBODRILL's footprint. The new ROBODRILL speeds up drilling and tapping operations via a rapid Z-axis acceleration (2.2 G) and traverse rate (60m/min). Plus, with an expanded tool capacity of 28 tools and lightning-fast changes, the new ROBODRILL α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 will boost productivity for any machining application.

"We understand modern machine shops, particularly in the automotive industry, need to produce constantly, maximize machine time, and reduce any interruptions to production," says Lou Finazzo, Vice President of FANUC America. "The new α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 is built for reliable production, tailored to our customers' needs for extra capabilities without sacrificing any floorspace."

The enhanced performance of the new ROBODRILL α-D28LiB5ADV Plus Y500 is designed to help machine shops drive down cycle times with faster speeds and improved productivity. Additionally, with easy robotic integration tools with FANUC robots, automating machine tending is a breeze with FANUC ROBODRILL Plus.

This newest ROBODRILL Plus continues to build on ROBODRILL's over 50-year reputation as the most reliable VMC with industry-leading uptime. The ROBODRILL Plus lineup offers precision and versatility with three model sizes available each in two choices: Standard or Advanced. With nearly a half million operating around the world, FANUC ROBODRILLs are popular for not only their performance, but 24/7 local support available to keep all machine shops running all the time.

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
