TE Connectivity celebrates 7 billion PLASTI-GRIP terminals and splices
Designed for use in power supplies, lighting, HVAC and more
DARMSTADT, Germany - May 15, 2018 - TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, is proud to announce the seven billionth (7,000,000,000) shipment of PLASTI-GRIP terminals since the inception of the company.
TE can trace its experience in the development of solderless terminals and crimp technology back to 1948, when Uncas A. Whitaker, the founder of AMP (Aero-Marine Products) invented PLASTI-GRIP - one of the first ever insulated solderless terminals. Since these early days, PLASTI-GRIP has become an industry standard RBY (Red, Blue, Yellow - the standard insulation colors for solderless terminals. Each color represents a wire size.) terminal for commercial applications. PLASTI-GRIP can be found in everything from panel boxes, switchgear, and power supplies, to lighting, transportation, and HVAC systems as well as many more applications.
"To reach the 7 billion milestone is an amazing achievement for our PLASTI-GRIP products," says Callum Luff, product manager. "The fact that these terminals and splices have stood the test of time in a wide variety of applications shows the staying power of the product. Our customers know PLASTI-GRIP products are high quality, easy to use and reliable."
TEs PLASTI-GRIP terminals are designed with fast and simple installation in mind. The funneled wire entry on each PLASTI-GRIP terminal permits rapid wire insertion during high speed production, and all terminals crimp easily with TE-designed application tooling. Together this provides a long-lasting connection of maximum conductivity and tensile strength.
PLASTI-GRIP terminals are available in ring, spade and flanged tongue terminals, as well as parallel and butt splices in wire sizes ranging from 26 AWG to 2/0AWG (0.12 - 76 mm2). PLASTI-GRIP is UL listed and CSA certified, and has a maximum operating voltage of 600V and a maximum operating temperature up to 105 degrees Celsius.

Using AI to Collect & Leverage Data
Data is the foundation of Industry 4.0. While skilled workers will always be essential, data is reshaping the manufacturing landscape, enabling automation of repetitive tasks, empowering smarter decision-making with AI assistance, and reducing defects and downtime. This shift allows small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) to compete more effectively on quality, speed, and cost. While AI and machine learning systems typically require around two years to collect enough data to reach their full potential, manufacturers can start seeing benefits almost immediately with basic analysis tools and dashboards. Our MEP National NetworkTM expert explains how in this Manufacturing Tomorrow article.
