Omron Supports Georgian College Engineering Technology Students with Generous Gift of Equipment

Industry-leading automation solutions innovator Omron Automation Americas has provided Georgian College engineering technology students with hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment encountered in industrial applications today. The college will be hosting a room naming dedication event on April 25 in honor of Omrons contribution.

Hoffman Estates, IL., April 18, 2018 - Georgian College engineering technology students now have a wealth of real-world equipment thanks to a generous gift from Omron Automation Americas. The pioneer in automation solutions recently gifted the college with workforce-relevant technology, bringing its cumulative giving to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Omron is also donating software and providing training to faculty so they can enhance their skills on and knowledge of the new equipment.

The success of applied learning programs relies heavily upon students access to the latest tools used in industry. Peter Brouwer, General Manager of Omron Canada, emphasized that Omron places great value on supporting engineering education values and that Georgian Colleges engineering and environmental technologies department presented a welcome opportunity to engage with the future of the automation industry.
"We are proud to be partners with Georgian College, helping students to engage in hands-on learning of automation solutions," says Brouwer. "The latest technologies in motion control, machine safety, HMI, vision, sensors and control components are available and can be tested together in a learning environment that simulates integrated interactions of total machine automation."
Georgian College students will be able to put their knowledge into practice by using a new set of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to simulate assembly line production in one of the colleges electrical labs.
In addition to their contribution to labs and classrooms, Omron has also partnered with Georgian Colleges Centre for Applied Research and Innovation to help a food and beverage client improve its manufacturing process with new electrical and mechanical capabilities.
To honor Omrons contribution, Georgian College will be hosting a room naming dedication event at 11 a.m. on April 25th in Room A152 at its Barrie campus. Remarks will be given by Bill Angelakos, Dean of Technology and Visual Arts and Peter Brouwer, General Manager of Omron Canada. Media are invited to attend the ceremony and tour around the Engineering Technology building and to witness Omrons automation equipment in action.
