Megger Donates Oil Test Set to Wind Energy Technology Program at Mesalands Community College

Megger gives students the opportunity to use industry-leading equipment to gain real-world training experience

Norristown, Pa. October 2017 - Megger recently donated an oil test set to Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Meggers oil test set, estimated at $9,000, will give students in the Wind Energy Technology program the opportunity to use industry-leading equipment to gain real-world training experience.

Designed to assess mineral, ester and silicon insulating liquids for breakdown up to 60 kV, Meggers range of automatic oil test sets are essential in ensuring the reliable operation of oil filled electrical equipment by monitoring and maintaining oil quality.

Andy Swapp, Wind Energy Technology faculty member at Mesalands, said, "We are truly appreciative of Meggers continued support. The new equipment will enhance our students hands-on experience in operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of wind turbines, including the Colleges 1.5 megawatt wind turbine."

Megger has been providing wind energy students at Mesalands with high-quality, electrical testing equipment since 2008. They recently donated a digital low resistance ohmmeter to Mesalands as well.

"It is truly an honor to have such a respected name in the industry partner with Mesalands Community College to help further the knowledge and experiences of our students in the Wind Energy Technology program," said Swapp. "I often wonder how many wind techs just coming out of a training program know what this equipment is, let alone how to use it. Its a very proud moment for us at the College to be able to provide our students with that vital knowledge."

Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, president of Mesalands Community College, said, "The College is privileged to be able to have the high-level support from businesses and industry that we receive for our academic programs. This gift will allow us to continue to train highly-qualified professionals for the future of wind technology."

David S. Danner, director of USA distribution sales for Megger, said, "Megger is happy to help. We have had a strong relationship with Mesalands for years and we are positive that the students will put the equipment to good use."

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
