Bosch Rexroth to showcase complete factory automation solutions that boost CPG productivity at PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL 2022

The latest technology demos and informative exhibits highlight Rexroth’s broad range of factory automation technology.

Bosch Rexroth will showcase one of the industry's most comprehensive solutions for factory automation and consumer packaged goods (CPG) at PACK EXPO INTERNATIONAL, Oct. 23-26, 2022, in Chicago.

Located in booth S-1620, Bosch Rexroth brings together a unique combination of advanced manufacturing hardware, software and applications expertise to provide innovative factory automation solutions engineered for productivity and open for flexibility. Featuring a high-performance portfolio that global OEMs and manufacturers rely on for their CPG operations, the booth will include multifaceted automation technology and working system demos.

The main focal point is a live multi-technology demo showing the integration of several automation technologies. Bosch Rexroth will simulate a pick-and-place CPG application using several technologies from its Factory Automation portfolio. Visitors will see a lightweight, maneuverable Kassow Robot pick up product from a moving VarioFlow plus conveyor to place it on a pallet. VarioFlow plus conveyors are suitable for CPG applications because the plastic chain surface is nearly closed, allowing even the smallest of parts to be transported safely and reliably.

Once the pallet is full, Rexroth's MP1000R AMR, made in collaboration with Geek+, moves the product to a storage location using Rexroth's ROKIT Locator software. Navigating autonomously, the MP1000R brings a second pallet full of product back to the VarioFlow plus conveyor, where the Kassow Robot loads more boxes onto it.

Other specific booth highlights include:

ctrlX AUTOMATION Cube: This unique, four-sided demo illustrates the modularity and scalability of ctrlX AUTOMATION while presenting an overview of the ctrlX DRIVE and ctrlX CORE hardware capabilities. On display is a three-axis ctrlX DRIVE linked to a ctrlX CORE industrial PC running in real-time. Other components, such as ctrlX IO, ctrlX HMI and the MS2N synchronous motor, are also included. In addition, the exhibit demonstrates how ctrlX CORE supports modern languages for today's industrial machinery, such as Java, Python and Node Red, plus many other application-appropriate languages.

ctrlX AUTOMATION for Specific Packaging Applications: This group of kiosks shows how the new, scalable and app-based Rexroth ctrlX AUTOMATION platform can be applied in a packaging line to reduce component and engineering costs by 30-50%. Specific examples shown include solutions for a vertical form, fill and seal machine; a filler, capper and labeler machine; a collator/cartoner machine; and a pick-and-place bundler/palletizer machine.

Smart Linear Robots: This area showcases new linear robots, consisting of best-in-class Rexroth linear technology components, automation hardware and software that can be used for diverse applications such as joining and pressing, handling, pick-and-place, palletizing or dispensing. Modern eTools support product selection, while the pre-installed, intuitive operating software enables fast commissioning and simple graphical programming. Rexroth mechatronic platforms can be easily integrated into higher-level systems using open interfaces and versatile end effectors.

Smart Function Kit for Handling: The kiosk includes a presentation highlighting features and benefits of the Smart Function Kit for Handling, combined with a working multi-axis linear robot system, whose configuration output can be created by booth visitors using an adjacent Bosch Rexroth eTools software demonstration. The exhibit will show how predefined multi-axis combinations can be easily sized, configured and ordered as one part number. In addition, the Smart Function Kit for Handling software app running on the Rexroth ctrlX AUTOMATION platform allows fast commissioning through automatic parameterization of the servo drive.

Proven and Adaptable Solutions

"Few industries face the complex and constantly shifting trends and customer preferences that CPG manufacturers deal with daily," said Sean Spees, Market Segment Manager for Consumer Packaged Goods North America. "Their success and growth calls for manufacturing systems that are reliable, highly adaptable and ready to respond to rapid shifts in consumer choices, year in and year out. Bosch Rexroth has the industry's most complete factory automation solutions engineered to meet those needs — proven solutions used in thousands of CPG operations across the globe. We offer more of the critical automation technology that packaging OEMs and end users depend on — controls and drive, mechatronics and material transport, assembly and linear motion technology — that are fully integrated into complete automation platforms to advance CPG productivity and flexibility."

Innovation Stage and Innovation Tour

Spees will be conducting an education session Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. on the show's Innovation Stage 2, where he will review key automation decisions that end users should consider to enhance their packaging line flexibility. His discussion will cover new technology, product developments and approaches that make it easier to change, update and reconfigure packaging lines to meet consumer market demands.
Show attendees can also take part in Bosch Rexroth's Innovation Tour that highlights the company's partner collaborations with several different CPG industry leaders. Participants are invited to visit booth S-1620 to find out how they can win a prize and learn more about factory automation, directly from Rexroth's experts.
