Phoenix Contact joins CESMII

Membership in The Smart Manufacturing Institute will accelerate digitalization

Middletown, Pa. - Phoenix Contact Development and Manufacturing, Inc., has joined CESMII -The Smart Manufacturing Institute. As a platinum member, Phoenix Contact will work with CESMII and other member companies to radically accelerate the development and adoption of advanced sensors, controls, platforms, and models - all to enable Smart Manufacturing (SM) to become the driving sustainable engine that delivers real-time business improvements in U.S. manufacturing.

Louis Grice, Phoenix Contact vice president of digitalization and government affairs, was named to the CESMII board.

"Since Phoenix Contact embarked on its digitalization journey several years ago, we've introduced many exciting technologies that help our customers make Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) a reality," Grice stated. "But just as importantly, we've embraced Smart Manufacturing on our own production floor. By working with CESMII, we'll contribute to a mission-driven association dedicated to driving performance, increasing quality, improving reliability, and saving energy for sustainable and competitive U.S. manufacturing."

"The democratization of Smart Manufacturing is a national imperative as we work together to create a more competitive manufacturing environment. This journey requires a productive and sustainable ecosystem, and it's an honor to have Phoenix Contact partnering with us on this important endeavor," said John Dyck, CESMII Chief Executive Officer.

About CESMII
CESMII is the United States' national institute on Smart Manufacturing, driving cultural and technological transformation and secure industrial technologies as national imperatives. By enabling frictionless movement of information - raw and contextualized data - between real-time Operations and the people and systems that create value in and across Manufacturing organizations, CESMII is impacting manufacturing performance through measurable improvements in areas such as: quality, throughput, costs/profitability, safety, asset reliability and energy productivity. Founded in 2016, in partnership with Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), CESMII is the third institute funded by EERE's Advanced Manufacturing Office. CESMII's program and administrative home is with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).

PI USA - Difference between Gantry & Split-Bridge

A traditional gantry system employs X-Y or X-Y-Z range of motion. Mounted on a base plate, usually granite, 2 parallel rails constitute the synchronized Y axis motion while the cross axis (bridge axis) provides the X motion. A vertical axis can be added on the bridge for the Z motion. A Split Bridge system can be less complex than a traditional gantry system because synchronization of the two parallel linear motors is not required. Both systems are used in industrial production, testing, and additive manufacturing.
