Balluff Hosts Third Manufacturing Day for Students and Community Members
Visitors were able to take part in hands-on activities and games involving Balluff sensors to learn how they work and to experience how automation aims to improve manufacturing outcomes.
Balluff hosted its third annual Manufacturing Day event on Friday, October 6, 2017. Over 120 students and local community members attended the event to learn about modern manufacturing and automation.
"At Balluff we believe in sharing our passion for Manufacturing & automation with the community. There are incredible job opportunities in manufacturing right now for both young people entering the workforce and people looking for that exciting next career" stated Will Healy III, Marketing Management Director at Balluff. "Manufacturing Day is one way we connect during the year with our local community to build interest in STEM and vocational opportunities that exist in Kentucky and in Manufacturing as a whole."
Erica Ashcraft attended with students from Yealey Elementary and commented, "Our A.M. Yealey Elementary 5th graders had a great time learning about the world of manufacturing today, and their visit has already sparked some wonderful conversations about STEM careers."
"Manufacturing Day is definitely a service to the community," Suzy VanDyke stated. "My son enjoyed the hands on opportunities, and I was interested to learn of the apprentice programs in the area," VanDyke adds.
In addition to Manufacturing Day, Balluff supports several other science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) initiatives in the local community. Balluff also participates in TECHFIT (Teaching Engineering Concepts to Harness Future Innovators and Technologists) programs at Purdue University and The College of Charleston. Balluff also supports educational opportunities with their student co-op programs, partnering with several local colleges and universities. Manufacturing Day has become a national collective effort for manufacturers, employers, and educators to open their doors and demonstrate modern manufacturing technology. The event is also a way for manufacturers to define the many opportunities that exist in today's manufacturing environments and why more individuals should consider pathways into manufacturing careers.
