AMufacture heads to Metstrade with global giant HP

The Portsmouth-based additive manufacturing specialist has doubled the size of its stand at Metstrade 2025 in Amsterdam – and joined forces with global technology leader HP to showcase how 3D printing is transforming the marine industry.

Leading UK additive manufacturer AMufacture is set to make its biggest appearance yet at one of the marine industry's leading trade shows.

The Portsmouth-based additive manufacturing specialist has doubled the size of its stand at Metstrade 2025 in Amsterdam - and joined forces with global technology leader HP to showcase how 3D printing is transforming the marine industry.

AMufacture - which was founded by Craig Pyser and Will Howden in 2018 - has enjoyed rapid growth and developed into the leading contract manufacturer in the additive manufacturing industry.

Will is a well-known figure in the marine world, having competed for Team GB in the Tornado sailing class at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with Leigh McMillan, having previously come second in the world championships in 2005.

AMufacture was the first in the UK to operate the HP 5420 White 3D printer and specialises in HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology to deliver best-in-class quality, part performance, scalability and lead time.

Will, who is also a naval architect, said the marine industry was perfectly placed to make the most of the opportunities that additive manufacturing could now offer.

"The great thing about Metstrade is that it's not a boat show as such, but somewhere to showcase everything which goes on board boats. That is a huge market and something which additive manufacturing is ideally suited to respond to.

"While it has traditionally been seen as an R&D tool, it is very much becoming a proven, high-quality manufacturing method. Up to 90 per cent of everything we now produce is destined to be an end part that could be in an automotive, marine or aerospace application rather than being used as a prototype.

"The technology and materials have improved enormously over the last decade and in some ways we are only just starting to scratch the surface of what can be achieved."

Craig said the company was enormously proud to be partnering HP at the show.

"HP is one of the world leaders in technology and additive printing in particular. They have a close association with the sailing world including sponsoring the French Americas Cup team.

"We have been the first in the UK to use some of HP's products, including carrying out beta testing, and they have never been anything less than an excellent partner.

"We're both looking forward to meeting up with existing and potential customers and showing them the enormous capabilities that 3D printing now has to improving their supply chain.

HP's Industrial Segment Manager, Claudia Galdini, said: "We are very excited to join AMufacture at Metstrade 2025 to showcase how industrial, production scale additive manufacturing is transforming this industry. AMufacture is a truly precious partner for us here, their expertise and experience are key to driving real impact in marine and underwater innovation."

Metstrade runs from November 18-20 and AMufacture can be found at stand 07.515.

The show comes at an exciting time for AMufacture which this month gained Cyber Essential Plus status and appointed former managing director of Dyson, David Hollander, as its new chairman.

It has recently benefited from significant follow-on investment from leading private equity firm Maven Capital and Scottish-based co-investor Turner, which has been helping ambitious companies to grow for more than 100 years.

It has increased its manufacturing capacity seven times in the last two years and is now targeting growth in the UK and overseas.
