May 13, 2025 - Mouser Electronics, Inc., the authorized global distributor with the newest electronic components and industrial automation products, today announces a new eBook in collaboration with Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), exploring the latest trends and challenges in motor control. From industrial robots and factory automation systems to medical devices, consumer electronics, and electric vehicles (EVs), motors drive the machinery that powers our modern world. In 14 Experts Discuss Motor Control in Modern Applications, engineers from ADI and other technology companies offer their perspectives on how ADI is helping meet the growing demands for intelligent, high-performance motor solutions. ADI is a world leader in motor control and provides customers with a broad portfolio of solutions, many of which are highlighted in the eBook.
The ADI TMC8100 universal encoder bus controller, available from Mouser, acts as a peripheral interface block to deliver the extracted and adjusted encoder position information to a motor control circuit's microcontroller or motion controller over SPI or UART. The device offers a high degree of flexibility for current protocol implementations, customization, and future protocol extensions.
The TMC9660 combines a smart gate driver and a high-performance motion and servo controller. The device also integrates motion position feedback interfaces, analog-to-digital converters (ADC), a powerful and flexible power management unit (PMU) and programmable low-dropout (LDO) regulators. For control and communication with an external processor through SPI or UART, a preprogrammed 32-bit microcontroller is embedded. Integrating the motor drive and controller of the TMC9660 simplifies the design and improves energy efficiency in compact applications.
The TMCM-1690-TMCL is a single-axis field-oriented control (FOC) servo controller gate driver module for 3-phase BLDC and DC motors. Universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART) and controller area network (CAN) interfaces enable TMCL protocol support for communication. Position feedback can be supplied via incremental encoders, digital hall sensors, and absolute SPI encoders.
The TMC5240 motion controller and driver chip is an intelligent power component designed to interface between a CPU and a stepper motor. All stepper motor logic is completely within the TMC5240 with no software requirements. The TMC5240 offers numerous unique enhancements, which are enabled by the system-on-chip integration of the driver and controller. Typical applications include 3D printers, lab and factory automation, antenna positioning, and more.
