Additive Flow — Accelerating AM Innovation with Innovative Digital Technologies

Additive Flow formally introduces its multi-functional optimisation software with simultaneous, multi-property capabilities.

26th February 2020; London, UK: Many new companies evolve during their infancy in stealth mode, emerging into the light when their product and/or service offering is demonstrably strong enough to impact its target market and withstand close scrutiny from potential customers and, of course, any press interest. This is the stage that UK company Additive Flow has reached.

Established in 2017, Additive Flow has developed advanced and unique digital solutions to solve many of the existing challenges within the additive manufacturing (AM) workflow.

The Additive Flow team comprises strong advocates for the performance potential of industrial 3D printing and AM as well as its potential to facilitate more sustainable manufacturing practices. However, the "potential" of AM has been discussed for many years now, while the realization of this potential has been slow to follow. One of the key barriers to adoption of the technology set occurs at the front end — throughout the digital workflow that AM necessitates, which encompasses design for AM, design optimization with multiple parameters, process simulation, process parameter optimization and material selection and placement.

Additive Flow has developed its modular FormFlow software to address many of these challenges — faced by many designers and engineers working with (or engaging for the first time with) 3D printing and additive manufacturing processes for product development and production applications. FormFlow is multi-functional software with the capability to apply multiple user-defined parameters for simultaneous geometry, process parameter and material optimisation. The dedicated, physics-driven algorithms within FormFlow do all of the complex work, and produce comprehensive and tangible results that deliver optimally performing parts cost effectively, sustainably and rapidly.

Put simply, FormFlow:

• puts the right material, with the right properties, in the right place
• optimises part geometry and material properties simultaneously with multi-physics algorithms
• subsequently allows users to simultaneously view productivity, cost, and performance outcomes of different design/production recommendations
• allows for multiple materials and different geometry optimisations
• quickly and efficiently produces optimised production files according to multiple user-defined parameters.

FormFlow is also AM-process / system agnostic with specialist solvers that account for the unique properties in AM materials and can be tailored to work with single- and/or multi-material designs.

Additive Flow is currently working on a project consultancy basis with a range of companies from OEMs to SMEs as well as AM ecosystem companies. This is because Additive Flow's digital solutions are versatile and modular, and can be used right across customised workflows with all of its multi-functionality, or it can be applied specifically to unlock particular bottlenecks in any given workflow to optimize cost, performance and sustainability outcomes. The company will open up FormFlow on license later this year.

About Additive Flow

Founded in 2017, Additive Flow, London, U.K. is leading the way in the creation of digital solutions with the overall aim of accelerating innovation through the use of AM. The company exists to solve digital workflow issues that currently prevent users — and potential users — of AM from unlocking the potential of manufacturing technologies during the pre-production stages of the process chain. The company was co-founded by Alexander Pluke (CEO) and Charles Fried (CTO), who are leading a growing team that work at the intersection of architectural computation, Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning, and material science.

The capabilities of Additive Flow have been recognized globally. The company was one of 28 startups selected by StartUp Grind to join its Accelerate 2019 Program - from a Europe-wide competition of more than 3000 entrants. Additive Flow was also a finalist in the Mass Challenge Switzerland programme in Lausanne last year and, notably a winner of DSM's "I AM Tomorrow" challenge.

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection

The FLIR Si1-LD is an easy-to-use acoustic imaging camera for locating and quantifying pressurized leaks in compressed air systems. This lightweight, one-handed camera is designed to help maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering professionals identify air leaks faster than with traditional methods. Built with a carefully constructed array of MEMS microphones for high sensitivity, the Si1-LD produces a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in loud, industrial environments. The acoustic image is overlaid in real time on a digital image, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the source of the sound, with onboard analytics which quantify the losses being incurred. The Si1-LD features a plugin that enables you to import acoustic images to FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced report creation. Field analysis and reporting can also be done using the FLIR Acoustic Camera Viewer cloud service. Transferring of images can be managed via memory stick or USB data cable. Through a regular maintenance routine, the FLIR Si1-LD can help facilities reduce their environmental impact and save money on utility bills.
