Swerim Completes the Metal Powder Value Chain with the Purchase of Nikon SLM Solutions’ SLM®280 2.0

Swerim AB, a leader in metals research, has announced the addition of the SLM®280 2.0 metal additive manufacturing system from Nikon SLM Solutions. This acquisition marks a significant advancement in Swerim’s ability to offer complete, in-house solutions across the entire metal powder value chain for its industrial partners.

Lübeck, Germany, 29.10.2024 - Swerim AB, a leader in metals research, has an-nounced the addition of the SLM®280 2.0 metal additive manufacturing system from Nikon SLM Solutions. This acquisition marks a significant ad-vancement in Swerim's ability to offer complete, in-house solutions across the entire metal powder value chain for its industrial partners.

The SLM®280 2.0, known for its flexibility and scalability, will enable Swerim to push the boundaries of industrial additive manufacturing (AM) by developing new materials, advancing alloy design, and optimizing powder properties. Swerim's vision of a fossil-free, circular industry is supported by this addition, ensuring faster development and confidential results for in-dustrial customers.
"The printer enables us to work with development along the entire metal powder value chain for our industrial customers," said Annika Strondl, Man-ager of the Powder Materials and Additive Manufacturing group at Swerim. "Having all equipment in-house, including a powder atomizer, secures a fast route and ensures confidential results."

By incorporating the SLM®280 2.0, Swerim will offer their customers a one-stop solution—from powder manufacturing, characterization, and consolida-tion to post-processing and final application. The new system will also sup-port comparisons between additive manufacturing methods like laser, elec-tron beam, and hot isostatic pressing.

Sam O'Leary, CEO of Nikon SLM Solutions, added, "Sustainability is an im-portant topic for us at Nikon SLM Solutions. We're excited to partner with Swerim to enable more sustainable production processes through advanced metal additive manufacturing. By reducing material waste and improving ef-ficiency, we can help the industry transition toward more eco-friendly and efficient production practices."
