Optomec to Showcase 3D Printed Electronics at EU Conference
Aerosol Jet Printing of Flexible and Stretchable Interconnects to be Highlighted
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D Printed Metals and 3D Printed Electronics, announced today that the company will feature its production grade Aerosol Jet 3D Printers at the LOPEC Conference in Munich, Germany. The conference will be held March 28-30 at the Messe Munchen in Germany. Aerosol Jet Systems will be showcased in Hall B0, stand # 513.
In addition to the exhibition, Dr. Mike Renn, Chief Technology Officer for Optomec, will give a presentation titled "Aerosol Jet Printing of Flexible and Stretchable Interconnects" in the Smart & Hybrid Systems session on Wednesday, March 29 at 16:40, room 13B.
Dr. Renns presentation will discuss how flexible hybrid circuits typically require interconnecting rigid bare silicon or packaged die to a flexible circuit board. Flexing these assemblies can cause extreme stress on the electrical connections, especially near the edge of the chip where it mates with the substrate. Much of the stress can be relieved by first printing an elastic fillet at the base of the chip to form a flexible ramp leading to the surface. Metal ink traces can then be printed along the ramp to connect between the board and chip I/O. Dr. Renn will explain how Aerosol Jet is an ideal printing tool for precision deposition of polymeric and metal inks in this 3D application. Aerosol Jet is a non-contact, high resolution printing technology that is compatible with a wide range of conductive, insulating, and resistive materials. He will discuss the printing of robust, flexible and stretchable 3D interconnects with line and space below 50 micrometers and good stability under thermal cycling. Dr. Renn will also provide details on the printing of passive electronic components and sensors.

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection
The FLIR Si1-LD is an easy-to-use acoustic imaging camera for locating and quantifying pressurized leaks in compressed air systems. This lightweight, one-handed camera is designed to help maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering professionals identify air leaks faster than with traditional methods. Built with a carefully constructed array of MEMS microphones for high sensitivity, the Si1-LD produces a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in loud, industrial environments. The acoustic image is overlaid in real time on a digital image, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the source of the sound, with onboard analytics which quantify the losses being incurred. The Si1-LD features a plugin that enables you to import acoustic images to FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced report creation. Field analysis and reporting can also be done using the FLIR Acoustic Camera Viewer cloud service. Transferring of images can be managed via memory stick or USB data cable. Through a regular maintenance routine, the FLIR Si1-LD can help facilities reduce their environmental impact and save money on utility bills.
