RS offers Dynapar encoders for today’s industrial environments

RS offers Dynapar’s extensive range of incremental encoders, including ruggedized models for high reliability and durability in harsh environments and smart models for Industry 4.0 environments.

FORT WORTH, Texas, September 10, 2025 - RS, a high-service global product and service solutions provider for industrial customers, offers Dynapar's extensive range of incremental encoders, including its heavy-duty HS35R and smart HS35iQ hollow-shaft optical encoders.

Incremental encoders calculate the current position, velocity, and acceleration of objects in motion and are critical for improving operator and equipment safety, monitoring physical loads, and supporting Industry 4.0 initiatives — including flexible packaging and predictive maintenance — in the factory automation, building transportation, off-highway vehicle, oil and gas, and amusement park industries. Common applications extend from PLCs, electronic counters, and motors and drives, including vector- or field-oriented-control (FOC) motors, to converting, pickling, processing, material handling, and packaging equipment and beyond, including elevators, drawworks drums, mud pumps, catwalks, hoists, and winches.

Dynapar's HS35R heavy-duty, hollow-shaft optical incremental encoders are ruggedized versions of its original vector-duty hollow-shaft encoders engineered to increase reliability, durability, and service life and maximize equipment uptime in harsh industrial environments. Special features include phased array, wide-gap encoder engines equipped with unbreakable plastic code discs that deliver high-resolution outputs — up to 20,000 pulses per revolution (PPR) — with excellent signal integrity, IP67 junction boxes for field wiring, rated operating temperatures extending from -40°C to +100°C, and the independently validated ability to withstand up to 400g shock and 20g vibration.

HS35R encoders have a compact, modular design that simplifies maintenance and replacement. They feature aluminum housings with IEC flanges starting at 2.5", 5/8" shafts, and two large-gauge, oversized bearings that can handle excessive shaft loading up to 100lbs axial and 50lbs radial. They also feature standard mounting dimensions and customizable mounting options — including direct motor and driveshaft mounting with three different tethers and a torque arm with an optional grounding strap — that don't require any couplings, flowerpots, or matching flanges, which eliminates additional components and points of failure and facilitates quick and easy installation and replacement. Hollow bore options include straight or tapered shapes in sizes spanning 6-28mm or 0.25-1.125" for electrically isolated variants and measuring 30mm or 1.25" for non-electrically-isolated variants. Additional options include IP64 or IP67 sealing and six interfaces: open collector, open collector with pull-up, push-pull, DLD7272, DLD 4469, and high-power MOSFET line driver.

This series is rated for 5-26VAC, 5-15VDC, and maximum operating speeds of 6,000rpm, bears CE and RoHS certifications, is made in the USA, and is backed by tens of thousands of field-proven installations worldwide.

Dynapar's HS35iQ programmable hollow-shaft encoders with PulseIQ technology are future-ready self-diagnosing feedback devices engineered to support predictive maintenance strategies, minimize downtime through rapid diagnostics, and meet Industry 4.0 requirements. Advanced onboard PulseIQ diagnostics, color-coded LEDs, and digital outputs provide real-time status updates and specific visual fault indications for issues like coupling and shaft slips, cable faults, shaft and bore mismatch, overspeed, temperature drift, and insufficient voltage. These features not only prevent unsafe operating conditions and unplanned downtime and confirm when faults have been resolved but recommend corrective action to help users confidently address the root cause in as few steps and little time as possible.

HS35iQ encoders store recent lifecycle and fault status data in the onboard memory — an industry first — which is accessible via PulseIQ Encoder Software. This software also allows users to configure fault conditions for overspeed, temperature, and output voltage warnings and errors, as well as operating conditions, including resolution, phase direction, and Z-index pulse polarity, position, and gating, which helps support lean inventory strategies.

These intelligent optical incremental encoders have compact aluminum housings with IEC flanges starting at 2.5", hollow bores ranging from 6mm to 1.25", standard mounting dimensions, and a direct-shaft mount configuration with three different tether options and no need for couplings, flowerpots, or matching flanges, which eliminates additional components and points of failure and facilitates quick and easy installation and replacement. Additional features include IP64 or IP67 sealing and four interfaces: open collector, open collector with pull-up, DLD 7272, and DLD 4469.

HS35iQ encoders with PulseIQ technology are rated for 5-26VAC, 5-15VDC, maximum operating speeds of 6,000rpm, resolution up to 20,000 PPR, operating temperatures extending from -40°C to +100°C, and up to 400g shock and 20g vibration. They bear CE, RoHS, and UKCA certifications and are made in the USA.

"When a machine is down, checking the encoder is a standard part of many industrial troubleshooting workflows," said Sal Deluca, Global Product Manager at Dynapar. "However, without an oscilloscope, they can be black boxes that take time to diagnose, leading to wasted effort, needless replacement, and unnecessary downtime — the costs of which add up quickly. Our HS35iQ encoder with PulseIQ technology transforms this workflow by providing specific fault indication that allows you to rule out the encoder or correct the root cause immediately and avoid repeat issues. They're especially well-suited for use in automated conveyor and material handling and packaging applications, where uptime and quick changeovers are critical.

"And for use cases that don't require smart solutions — like some cranes and hoists — our modular, heavy-duty HS35R encoders provide rugged reliability, durability, long-lifetime performance, and broad application suitability in a variety of harsh environments."
