Talking IMTS with Dynatect

Contributed by | Dynatect

Tell us about your company.

Dynatect has been in the machine protection business over 70 years and has expanded its product portfolio to include precision motion control products and molded urethane. Our mission is to create exceptional custom engineering solutions ensuring longer uptime and a safer work environment. Machine safety doors, door actuators, and walk-on pit covers are a few of the products that help safeguard work environments. In response to a world of rising commodity costs and extended lead-times, machine tool users are increasingly using Dynatect’s ball screw and way cover repair services and the ability to replace bellows and machine wiper for all brands. Equipment manufacturers and system integrators can rely on Dynatect’s large engineering staff for technical consultation to match the right solution to their application. We service both aftermarket and OEM applications.

Your company will be exhibiting at IMTS, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

Dynatect has participated in IMTS for decades and has come to rely on IMTS to highlight new products and network with existing customers. When we changed our name from A&A Manufacturing, we paired our big announcement with the opening day of IMTS 2014.

Highlight a 2 or 3 products you will be showcasing at the event?

We’re showcasing new products for machine safety, precision ground ball screws, and cable carriers.  The Gortite® VF Automated Machine Safety Door acts as a physical barrier to isolate process driven hazards from people and equipment. This high-speed roll-up can offer machine guarding benefits that cannot be achieved from sensors and light curtains alone.

With our new ball screw end cap design, we can now provide twice as many varieties of long lead applications where lead is greater than 50% of the screw diameter. Two new patented solutions for long travel cable carrier applications offer the lowest total cost of ownership and eliminate the expense and challenges associated with the industry’s current default solution.

IMTS has many educational sessions & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

We’re not involved in any of the educational sessions run by IMTS or their sponsors, but we are holding our own condensed learning sessions at our booth through-out the week. The dates and times will be announced soon, but the topics will be machine safety doors, precision ground ball screws, and cable and hose carriers.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions you plan on attending?

As a marketer, I like to walk the floor and see other exhibits. It’s also a great opportunity to learn more about the industry. The additive manufacturing section is impressive.

When you book a booth for a tradeshow like this what are your expectations and what does your company hope to accomplish at the event?

The IMTS Show is growing so we understand the importance of reaching out to attendees in advance to hopefully win a spot on their show agenda. Anyone in the business of using or making machine tools could benefit from a supplier that brings experience and multiple areas of expertise under one entity. We want to speak with visitors about their machine protection, machine safety, repair, or ball screw needs. We’ve had the unusual circumstance of appearing in a different hall for the last three IMTS shows, so we hope people can find us in our new location in the East building (hall 2).

A tradeshow of this magnitude is extremely busy and stressful for the staff of exhibiting companies.  Any fun things or places your team can suggest in Chicago to help unwind?

My ideal strategy for unwinding is to seek alone time, ideally outdoors. There’s the Lincoln Park Conservatory and nearby Lincoln Park Zoo, and the 3.5-acre Lurie Garden that is situated within Millennium Park. Fellow introverts and nature lovers will understand. Chicago’s weather is usually gorgeous in September - not too hot, not too cold. If it rains? It won’t be hard to find a restaurant with your favorite food. Come to our booth Monday morning and talk to one of our sales representatives who is a Chicago native, he may have a different response.

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection

The FLIR Si1-LD is an easy-to-use acoustic imaging camera for locating and quantifying pressurized leaks in compressed air systems. This lightweight, one-handed camera is designed to help maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering professionals identify air leaks faster than with traditional methods. Built with a carefully constructed array of MEMS microphones for high sensitivity, the Si1-LD produces a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in loud, industrial environments. The acoustic image is overlaid in real time on a digital image, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the source of the sound, with onboard analytics which quantify the losses being incurred. The Si1-LD features a plugin that enables you to import acoustic images to FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced report creation. Field analysis and reporting can also be done using the FLIR Acoustic Camera Viewer cloud service. Transferring of images can be managed via memory stick or USB data cable. Through a regular maintenance routine, the FLIR Si1-LD can help facilities reduce their environmental impact and save money on utility bills.
