Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence Announces Second Call for Projects

Responding to interest from the industry, the AM CoE developed the CFP program in 2020 to allow non-AM CoE members to receive support for research towards standards development. This RFP is a complementary program to the AM CoE Request for Ideas (RFI), which funds projects by AM CoE partners from the pool of submitted ideas from ASTM membership. Both the CFP and RFI focus on closing standardization gaps, including those identified in the AMSC roadmap.

W. CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa., Oct. 27, 2021 - Today, ASTM International's Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) announced the second Call for Projects (CFP), allowing non-AM CoE partners to participate in a Research to Standardization initiative to further accelerate standards development for additive manufacturing (AM).

"We are thrilled to unveil our second Call for Projects," says Mohsen Seifi, Ph.D., ASTM International's director of global additive manufacturing programs. "The AM CoE team is excited to continue supporting AM users and developers that participate in the Research to Standards (R2S) initiative, and further accelerate AM standardization."

Several themes for AM research and development topics are highlighted in the CFP, including:
• Design (DfAM) and Data (acquisition, analysis, management, sharing, machine learning and AI, etc.);
• Feedstock (characterization, reuse, handling, storage, etc.);
• AM processes and post-processing (interruptions, in-situ monitoring, support removal, finishing, etc.);
• Testing (rapid, alternate, or novel test methods for AM); and
• Inspection, certification, and qualification

Interested participants should register here for an upcoming informational webinar to be held Dec. 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. EST.
