FABTECH - Balluff Experts Discuss IIoT, Poka-Yoke, and In-Die Sensing at FABTECH 2016
Dave Bird and Will Healy III of Balluff, Inc. will be presenting several educational sessions at the 2016 FABTECH event in Las Vegas November 16-18.
Balluff experts, Will Healy III and Dave Bird, will be presenting several educational sessions at this year's FABTECH event. Topics include: Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) & Industry 4.0 in metal fabrication; poka-yoke & error-proofing in automated welding; and in-die sensing and press setup technologies. These sessions take place November 16-18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Title: "Why Metal Fabrication Management Should Be Paying Attention to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) & Industry 4.0" by Will Healy III
Summary: This presentation will break down the basics of IoT and Industry 4.0, briefly review key supporting technologies, and discuss simple decisions you can make today to start enabling your factory for flexible manufacturing, efficient production and the tools to be competitive in today's market.

Title: "Poka-Yoke & Error-Proofing in Automated Joining with a Focus on Weld Nut Detection" by Will Healy III & Dave Bird
Summary: This presentation will compare and contrast different sensing technology solutions used for error proofing applications in automated welding. In automated manufacturing, part quality issues can be a weekly discussion across North America. Using real world examples, experiences and photographs, suggested technologies for each application and situation will be discussed.

Title: "How In-Die Sensing and Press Setup Technologies Enable Quick Die Changes, Quality Parts & Prevent Die Crashes" by Will Healy III & Dave Bird
Summary: For many in stamping operations, poor part quality and missed production quotas can be a daily source of frustration. Teams need to identify quality issues early and adjust quickly so they can have zero defects shipped to customer. This is readily accomplished through in-die process validation, electronic measurement and part traceability. Through real-world examples, this session will discuss how press shops are successfully implementing error-proofing, preventing die crashes and implementing quick die changes regardless of their experience with automation.
