PACK Expo - Interroll Debuts New MSC 50 Magnetic Speed Controller to Optimize Gravity Roller Conveyor Operation at PACK EXPO 2016
MSC 50 is the world’s first speed controller with integrated eddy current brake that provides a cost-effective solution for handling lightweight and heavier goods
ATLANTA, October 11, 2016 - Interroll, a worldwide provider of key products and solutions for internal logistics, will unveil its new patented MSC 50 (magnetic speed controller) at PACK EXPO International 2016 in Chicago.
"These features make the MSC 50 the perfect choice for warehousing, e-commerce, postal service, food and pharmaceutical operations, as well as for customers that use flow racks for heavy containers," said Ralf Garlichs, executive vice president and head of products & technology at Interroll. "Our MSC 50 is a solution with an optimum price-to-performance ratio, offering users the peace of mind that only a solid investment brings."
The MSC 50 is the most cost-effective solution currently on the market for controlling the speed of boxes and plastic trays traveling on gravity roller conveyors and spirals or the end sections of sorters. Suitable for handling goods weighing up to 77 pounds, this innovative system provides customers with total control over their conveyor and ensures lightweight packages move smoothly, while limiting the speed of heavy goods traveling along the conveyor.
Gravity roller conveyors are widely used and are often installed to handle the final stage of goods moving through sorting systems. To eliminate extra costs resulting from, for example, goods damaged because they are moving too quickly on those gravity conveyors, or extra travel time to pick up stuck goods, these end sections must work perfectly.
"In an effort to minimize costs, the majority of gravity conveyors currently available are sold without components to control conveyor speed, resulting in limited functionality," said Ken Ferguson, director of sales and marketing at Interroll. "Because of an increasing diversity in the size and weight of goods running on gravity conveyors, we saw an opportunity to develop a speed controller to address this issue."
The MSC 50 features an eddy current brake, which makes it maintenance-free. Double shielding prevents magnetic emissions entirely, and due to its bidirectional braking function, the MSC 50 cannot be mounted incorrectly. In addition, the MSC 50 speed controller is easy to install and is well-suited for retrofitting existing gravity conveyor installations. Different MSC 50 lengths and quantities can be used to scale the design and provide the ideal solution for a variety of applications.
The MSC 50 is designed for a maximum load of 112 lbf and a maximum infeed speed of 500 fpm. Maximum input is up to 3,000 units per hour. It has a specified ambient temperature range of 40 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and is available in roller lengths of 8 to 55 inches.
Interroll will be exhibiting at Booth E-8825 in the McCormick Place Convention Center on November 6-9.
Interroll will also showcase its lineup of ultra-hygienic, energy efficient drum motors, which are the only ones in the industry with full USDA, NSF and FDA approvals for safe processing of poultry, meat and dairy.
Material handling professionals from the packaging and pharmaceutical industries will also be able to learn more about Interroll's 24 Volt platform of RollerDrive and Control Cards, which are ideal for saving energy and space while maintaining total control of the material flow.
