UltraFlex performing induction curing with strict control on the temperature maintained

Thanks to the automated heating and temperature control, this induction curing process ensured consistent, controlled and reliable curing results, totally independent of the operator skills.

A recent customer case shared by UltraFlex Power Technologies proved the efficiency of using induction heating for curing applications where strict control on the temperature has to be maintained.

UltraFlex - a leading manufacturer of advanced, digitally controlled induction heaters - had been contacted by a customer from the automotive industry with regards to a specific steel cylinder adhesive curing process. The process required reaching the temperature of 175° C (347°F) and maintaining it within the tight tolerance of +/- 3 C, for a period of 60 seconds. The curing process would result in the adhesive reliably bonding a quartz chip.

Induction heating was the customer's preferred heating method since it provided faster, controlled and more uniform heating, with energy- and hence, cost-efficiency as added value.

UltraFlex engineers considered the induction heating equipment from UltraFlex UltraHeat SM series as most efficient for this induction curing scenario. UltraHeat SM are compact 5kW induction heating systems that operate with either a water-cooled or air-cooled remote heat station. They feature an advanced induction heating power supply utilizing the latest switching power technology, are reliable, easy to maintain and service.

At power output automatically defined by the temperature profile set up in the induction heating unit, it took 13 seconds to reach the target value. Thanks to the digital temperature control, the temperature had been successfully maintained for the next 60 seconds, until the curing process had been fully completed. A K-type temperature controller attached to the induction heating unit was used throughout the entire heating process, to measure the temperature and ensure the target values had been met and maintained.

Thanks to the automated heating and temperature control, this induction curing process ensured consistent, controlled and reliable curing results, totally independent of the operator skills. Due to the lack of open flame and noxious emissions, it was also a safe process - safe for the operator, safe for the environment.
