AMT Challenges Formnext Attendees

Much has already been made of the hugely innovative booth that AMT will be unveiling at the show in Frankfurt next month. The 84 m2 booth is modular, fully customizable, and reusable, and features more than 6000 3D printed and post-processed parts connecting over 1000 m of aluminium frame.

(Sheffield, UK; 25th October 2019) Advanced Manufacturing Technologies Ltd (AMT), will be exhibiting at Formnext 2019, November 19-22, Frankfurt Messe Hall 12.1, Booth E61.

AMT develops fully automated safe and sustainable post processing solutions to enable the industrial production of additively manufactured parts at scale. The company's first commercial offering - the PostPro3D — is focused on a fully automated and sustainable post-processing solution for high volume, production 3D printed polymer parts, and will be among AMT's exhibit highlights at the Formnext event, along with the first introduction of its Digital Manufacturing System (DMS).

Much has already been made of the hugely innovative booth that AMT will be unveiling at the show in Frankfurt next month. The 84 m2 booth is modular, fully customizable, and reusable, and features more than 6000 3D printed and post-processed parts connecting over 1000 m of aluminium frame.

But the eye catching booth is just the tip of the iceberg, as attendees at Formnext will be offered an array of opportunities to see AMT's range of AM post-processing technologies for themselves, discuss them with experts from the company, and see a range of post-processed parts. Not to mention, grab a beer from the digitally connected robot bar.

Beyond all this, however, AMT wants to invite attendees at the event to issue the company with a unique challenge.

Joseph Crabtree, CEO at AMT explains. "We are aware that to prove the effectiveness and quality of our post-processing solution, there is no substitute for customers being able to assess the quality of their own finished parts. With this in mind, we are challenging show attendees to send us their 3D printed parts in advance of the event, and we will finish them using our patented post-processing technology. At the show, they will be presented with their finished part, and they can see for themselves just what our solution can offer for their specific products and applications."

Such a challenge is typical of AMT's approach as it seeks to stimulate the efficient integration of AM into industrial production scenarios. The key is to demonstrate in as many ways as possible the effectiveness of the company's automated post-processing solutions, and the best way to do this is to allow customers to assess real parts and components that have been through the process.

"Some companies TELL their customers how effective their solutions are at big events. We want to go one step further and PROVE it. At Formnext, attendees will be able to see parts that have been finished using our post-processing solutions. They not only support the very booth that we have at the event, but example parts will be there for attendees to touch and feel as well. The offer to work on real customer parts as well and bringing these to the show to present to attendees gives them complete visibility, and they can see that through AMT's solutions, the quality and integrity of post-processed parts is exceptional," Crabtree concludes.

Simplicity is the key behind AMT's post-processing technology. Post-build, the 3D printed parts can be removed from the machine, loaded onto a rack, and placed into the PostPro3D post-processing chamber. The user then selects the appropriate program and the process starts and runs for 90-120 minutes, after which the parts can be removed, inspected, and are fit for purpose.

During the 90 to 120 minutes, parts are subject to a physiochemical process that involves converting a proprietary but wholly safe solvent into vapour under precisely controlled vacuum and temperature conditions. In turn, this precisely refines the surface of each part to ensure a perfectly smooth finish, equivalent to that of an injection moulded part. Moreover, the process also seals and strengthens parts, essentially improving their mechanical properties— such as elongation at break — compared with how parts were when they came out of the 3D printer.
