Essentium High Speed Extrusion (HSETM) 3D Printing Platform Puts Large-Scale Additive Manufacturing in the Hands of Customers

Showcased publicly in the US for the first time at Rapid + TCT, the HSETM 3D printing platform proves unrivalled speed, strength, and scale to advance Industry 4.0

DETROIT, Michigan, May 21 2019 - Today at Rapid + TCT, Essentium showcased the Essentium High Speed Extrusion (HSETM) 3D Printing Platform in action, for the first time publicly in the US, demonstrating how it unlocks the promise of large-scale additive manufacturing and helps manufacturers accelerate their journey to Industry 4.0. Essentium also demonstrated use cases for its unique electrostatic discharge (ESD) safe 3D printing material, critical to protect electrostatic-sensitive devices in electronics manufacturing, oil and gas, and aerospace industries.

At up to 10x faster and 5x more accurate than competitive offerings, the HSE 3D Printer performs to the level required in the most demanding manufacturing environments. The 3D printing platform offers class leading print speeds greater than 500mm a second by utilizing a non-slip, high torque extruder system and all linear motor. Supplementing the capabilities of the hardware, Essentium has tuned the materials accordingly to process at speed while being strong enough to withstand impact loading, fatigue, or cyclic loading and protect electrostatic-sensitive devices. For example, Essentium has developed high quality, multi-layer structures into its filament to create a no-compromise ESD-safe material for 3D printing that eliminates sloughing conductive particles onto electronic assemblies during manufacturing.
By delivering a complete and no comprise solution, the Essentium HSE 3D Printer is the only platform to truly compete with CNC machining and enable the shift from prototyping to full scale production runs.
As a result, customers across automotive, aerospace, contract manufacturing and biomedical industries have already signed-up for the HSE to embrace additive manufacturing at scale. Early access program customers are already experiencing how the system can address the pain points for end users of additive technology. In fact, one Essentium customer has decreased its time to tool by 85 percent over aluminium tooling and achieved a 97 percent cost savings over other traditional methods.
As demand for industrial scale 3D printing continues to grow, Essentium is working closely with new and existing digital manufacturing partners around the world including Materialise to integrate the company's industry-leading 3D software.
Said Blake Teipel, CEO and Co-founder of Essentium, "While companies have already begun to include 3D printing in their production processes the bulk of manufacturing continues to be done by traditional CNC machines as firms are hindered by speed and scale obstacles. The Essentium HSE is smashing through these barriers, providing speed without compromising the performance of the printed part to accelerate the shift to large-scale additive manufacturing. It is enabling wide-ranging applications as firms enter Industry 4.0 helping to drive greater innovation, efficiency and sustainability across their product development lifecycles."
Following the company's $22.2M Series A funding in January this year, Essentium has expanded and moved its headquarters to Austin, Texas to ensure the company's continued successful and sustainable growth.

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
