The Industrial Internet Consortium and Wi-SUN Alliance Announce Liaison

Organizations to collaborate on wireless technologies for smart cities, utilities

The Industrial Internet Consortium® (IIC™), now incorporating OpenFog®, and the Wi-SUN Alliance, a global member-based association driving the proliferation of interoperable wireless solutions for use in smart cities, smart utilities and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications, announced they have agreed to work together to advance their shared interests. Under the agreement, the IIC and the Wi-SUN Alliance will work together to align efforts to maximize interoperability, portability, security and privacy for the industrial Internet.


Joint activities between the IIC and the Wi-SUN Alliance will include:

Realizing and sharing good practices;
Realizing interoperability by harmonizing architecture and other elements;
Collaborating on standardization;
Collaborating on creation and distribution of mutually beneficial marketing work products
"Collaboration between the IIC and the Wi-SUN Alliance benefits stakeholders from both organizations by enabling multi-vendor ecosystems of devices interconnected by common, secure, industrial-grade wireless mesh networks," said Phil Beecher, Wi-SUN Alliance President & CEO. "The Wi-SUN Alliance provides a technical profile and certification for Field Area Network (FAN) products ideally suited for several of the industry verticals addressed by the IIC."

The IIC Liaison Working Group is the gateway for formal relationships with standards and open-source organizations, consortia, alliances, certification and testing bodies and government entities/agencies.
