Print Even Bigger: Airwolf 3D Announces EVO 22 Large Format Desktop Additive Manufacturing Cente

Airwolf 3D's new EVO 22 Additive Manufacturing Center empowers users to print even bigger parts using ABS, patent-pending HydroFill Water-Soluble Support, polycarbonate, stainless steel, and over 40 other 3D-printing materials. The EVO 22 leverages the existing feature set of the industry-leading EVO Additive Manufacturing Center, but with a towering 22.75-inch build height -- almost a foot taller than Airwolf 3D's flagship EVO machine.

If there's a central theme to the story of Airwolf 3D, it's that the California-based 3D printer manufacturer pushes the limits of desktop 3D printing technology to empower users to print increasingly larger, stronger parts out of industrial-grade materials. In fact, it has been one of the company's not-so-secret keys to success in an industry that is currently over-saturated with mid-priced machines jockeying for position in an increasingly sophisticated and demanding market.

"We're often asked what makes our machines different," said Airwolf 3D Co-Founder and CEO Erick Wolf. "All you really have to do is look at the type and quality of parts the EVO 22 is capable of manufacturing -- large, real-scale parts that not only display beautiful print quality, but also exhibit the strength and mechanical properties required for functional prototypes and production-ready parts. Other machines in this price class simply don't offer the same level of performance and quality, whether it is because their beds and hot ends fail to reach and sustain the temperatures required for pure, engineering-grade filament or they cut corners and use flimsy construction that, again, can not support advanced industrial desktop manufacturing."

The EVO 22 is perfectly optimized for large-format 3D printing because of its underlying technology. Like the original EVO machine launched at CES 2018 in January, the new EVO 22 is outfitted with a cartridge-style planetary extruder assembly and a three-bolt-reinforced QuickChange hot end for faster, more precise extrusion of materials. Central to the EVO 22's ability to print large parts successfully is the EVO Series' proprietary Tri-Heat™ Build Environment.

Comprised of two built-in chamber heaters and a high-temperature print bed, rated for 160 degrees Celsius, the Tri-Heat™ Build Environment gives users greater control over the machine's internal ambient temperature, allowing them to create the ideal thermal environment for supporting large part production. Combined with a patent-pending hot end and enclosed chamber design, the TriHeat™ technology optimizes and regulates the heat needed to increase part strength while minimizing cracks and warpage.

With a huge build volume of 3,276 cubic inches, the system is ideal for prototyping and producing massive parts in end-use materials like ABS and polycarbonate. The thermal environment is also ideal for using HydroFill Water-Soluble Support to manufacture large parts with complex internal geometries.

Like the original EVO, the EVO 22 also features Airwolf 3D's proprietary firmware operating on the GENESIS board, a custom 32-bit automotive-grade microcontroller developed specifically for delivering higher speeds, more precision, and greater control at ultra-high temperatures than any other desktop 3D manufacturing system on the market. In addition, the EVO 22 ships with a HEPA and carbon air filtration system, patent-pending 100% aluminum unitized frame, one-piece stainless steel bed frame, ball screw Z stage, and linear-guide-based CoreXY motion system.

"When we designed the original EVO machine, we went to great lengths to optimize and future-proof the technology," explained Wolf. "From the dual planetary extruder system and game-changing internal chamber heaters to the ultra-ruggedized frame and bed construction, the EVO was built to perform. Expanding the build volume of the machine was a natural progression for us, and the EVO 22 offers the ultimate in industrial large part production with the ease of a desktop form factor."

The EVO 22 Additive Manufacturing Center is available for $11,995.00 from Airwolf 3D and its authorized resellers. The new machine is scheduled to start shipping in September 2018.
