NEW YORK, NY and FORT WAYNE, IN April 17, 2018: This year at the INTERPHEX show held in New York, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions will highlight innovative manufacturing services for implanted medical devices and combination products, such as drug delivery products and drug release additives used to enhance implanted devices.

Mark Gordon, Product Manager, Tustin, says: "Our customers face various challenges with medical device development and we provide a solution by working with them every step of the way, from initial concept development through to commercialization globally. Our U.S. facility in Tustin, California, is licensed by the state for medical devices and drug product manufacturing, and is ISO 13485 certified. Our highly experienced engineers work in close partnership with our customers to ensure they are satisfied throughout the entire product lifecycle."

Examples of innovations Trelleborg Sealing Solutions will display at the show include: silicone solutions found in combination products and finished devices, implantable silicone parts, drug delivery reservoirs and release controls, various tubing and hose, liquid silicone rubber parts and silicone sheeting. The following will be highlighted on stand:

GeoTrans® extrusion technology allows Trelleborg Sealing Solutions to vary the cross-section of a silicone extrusion in a continuous process and without the need for secondary assembly, bonding or overmolding. The process can be customized to produce a wide variety of options, including variance of inside and outside diameter, different wall thickness of tubes, bifurcation of lumen tubes and incorporation of grooved features for mating in assemblies or channels, as in wound drains, for example.

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions manufactures custom, precision sheeting from a variety of silicone materials, including High-Consistency silicone Rubber (HCR), Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR), gels, dispersions and adhesives. Laminated sheets with vulcanized and un-vulcanized layers facilitate downstream assembly for applications such as patches for tissue expanders and mammary devices. Mesh-reinforcement is often integrated to improve tensile strength or for anchoring applications such as sewing rings on artificial heart valves. Silicone sheets are regularly cut or slit to desired size or punched into custom shapes to serve as seals, gaskets or diaphragms.

Seal-Glide Medical is an exceptionally thin elastomer coating at the nano-scale. It greatly reduces the friction of elastomers without affecting sealing properties, facilitating automated assembly, enhancing seal performance and increasing service life. It is ideal for healthcare and medical applications as the coating is highly stable in sterilization regimes that involve gamma rays, ethylene oxide and superheated steam.

Mark Gordon, continues: "In Tustin we have robust quality systems to ensure the services we offer match the needs of our customers. We use our extensive experience in a diverse portfolio of drug delivery technologies, manufacturing processes and polymer materials to optimize our customers product design. Focusing on implanted medical devices and drug/polymer combination products, we provide our customers with manufacturing solutions for products such as neurological implants, ophthalmic implants, cosmetic implants, therapeutics, diagnostic catheters and implanted drug delivery products for targeted drug delivery. Our product assembly capabilities include microscope assembly of very small devices and we can custom fabricate; managing any and all aspects of the supply chain."
