PACK Expo - Advanced System for Medical Device Packaging by Brenton Debuts at Pack Expo

Brenton showcases a new medical device system for primary and secondary packaging that operates as if it were a single machine controlled by one operator.

Brenton Engineering, powered by Pro Mach, will introduce at Pack Expo in Chicago, November 6-9, an integrated, small footprint, primary and secondary medical device packaging system that operates as if it were a single machine under the control of one operator. This new system utilizes Industry 4.0 concepts for exceptional flexibility and gives medical device manufacturers positive control of secondary packaging from forming through palletizing as well as lowest total cost of ownership. Device manufacturers can customize this packaging system to satisfy the requirements of their unique environments. (Brenton Engineering Pack Expo Booth # S-3738)

Key machines in the high speed/small footprint system at Pack Expo include an Ossid, powered by Pro Mach, Integrity thermoforming machine that simulates primary packaging of syringes. For secondary packaging, it is a case former and top loading robotic case packer. In one of the first applications in the world, Brenton integrated the Festo and Siemens developed multi-carrier smart conveyor to transport shipping cases from the former to the loader. The multi-carrier- system, based on Industry 4.0 smart manufacturing concepts, can independently route products and packaging to various operations, giving the manufacturer the utmost in flexibility.
A collaborative robot loads the Integrity thermoforming machine with syringe shaped pens and demonstrates the robots safety around workers, labor savings, and ease of use. A multi-axis robot does double duty, nesting primary packaging in cases and then palletizing cases once they are sealed.
"The key points we are making with this small footprint demonstration system is that medical device manufacturers can have a primary and secondary packaging line that meets their needs for control of product and package, and that it operates as if it were a single machine with one operator," said Jason Enninga, Vice President of Sales at Brenton Engineering. "There are numerous efficiencies and cost savings with the unified controlled approach. Featuring the new smart conveyor, collaborative robot, and multi-axis robot emphasizes the flexibility we can build into these packaging systems."
Medical device and other manufacturers interested in compact, flexible primary and secondary packaging systems are encouraged to stop by the Brenton Pack Expo Booth # S-3738. For more information on Brenton, call 800-535-2730 and visit http://www.brentonengineering.com.
