Type A Machines & Mosaic Manufacturing Enable Multi-Filament Printing with Single Extruder Series 1 3D Printer

Collaboration brings cleanest multi-color printing to 3D printing industry, opens the door to new applications.

Type A Machines, Inc., a market leader in industrial-grade fused filament fabrication (FFF/FDM) 3D printers, today announced a collaboration with 3D printing technology company Mosaic Manufacturing Ltd. to bring multi-filament FFF printing to the U.S. market. Type A Machines will make the Mosaic Palette available directly as an integrated bundle with the company's Series 1 3D printer via the companys online store.

The Mosaic Palette is an innovative 3D printing accessory powered by the companys proprietary Series Enabled Extrusion of Materials (SEEM) technology. With Palette, existing and new Series 1 owners can print single objects with up to four filaments without sacrificing performance or permanently losing space from the printers large, cubic foot build volume. In addition, Palette along with a Series 1 avoids the high learning curve, and technical limitations of the various multi-extruder solutions being attempted. Palette features the industrys first closed-loop feedback system to ensure each print stays in-sync, layer after layer - while providing for the cleanest 4-color printing on the market.
"Many have attempted to solve the challenge of printing with multiple filaments, Type A Machines included," said Andrew Rutter, Type A Machines founder and CEO. "Mosaic has created the first real solution that solves the immediate need for high-quality multi-color printing, while opening the door to new multi-filament applications with the Series 1. We are excited to be the only printer manufacturer offering this significant advance in multi-filament printing."
"The partnership between Mosaic Manufacturing and Type A Machines brings real world answers to the challenges of multi-filament printing," said Chris Labelle, co-founder and COO of Mosaic Manufacturing. "We see extrusion as one of the most important aspects of 3D printing and admire the focus Type A Machines brings to creating robust, high-quality machines -- including the exceptional G2 extruder -- for the industrys most demanding market segments."
Palette was brought to market after a successful 2015 Kickstarter campaign, which validated both the companys approach and the market demand for a multi-color option that is more accessible, usable, and capable than current multi-head extruder market offerings. Palette assembles a single strand of filament by using multi-extruder information to determine the length, and the order of each filament segment. A cutter and splicer then assemble each segment to create a single strand for extrusion. In this method, users can combine materials with different finishes and colors to create objects like never before. Palette, in conjunction with the exceptional material capability of the Series 1 G2 Extruder, opens the door for entirely new applications in multi-filament printing.
Full documentation, as well as specialized parts to connect the Palette to a Series 1, are included as part of the Palette for Series 1 bundle.
Availability:
Customers can immediately sign up to reserve their Palette for Series 1 at the Type A Machines online store. The retail price is expected to be US$999. Customer shipments are planned to begin in early January 2017.

FLIR Si1-LD - Industrial Acoustic Imaging Camera for Compressed Air Leak Detection

The FLIR Si1-LD is an easy-to-use acoustic imaging camera for locating and quantifying pressurized leaks in compressed air systems. This lightweight, one-handed camera is designed to help maintenance, manufacturing, and engineering professionals identify air leaks faster than with traditional methods. Built with a carefully constructed array of MEMS microphones for high sensitivity, the Si1-LD produces a precise acoustic image that visually displays ultrasonic information, even in loud, industrial environments. The acoustic image is overlaid in real time on a digital image, allowing you to accurately pinpoint the source of the sound, with onboard analytics which quantify the losses being incurred. The Si1-LD features a plugin that enables you to import acoustic images to FLIR Thermal Studio suite for offline editing, analysis, and advanced report creation. Field analysis and reporting can also be done using the FLIR Acoustic Camera Viewer cloud service. Transferring of images can be managed via memory stick or USB data cable. Through a regular maintenance routine, the FLIR Si1-LD can help facilities reduce their environmental impact and save money on utility bills.
