MIT Professional Education Launches New Courses & Certificate Programs

2019 offerings expand to include two new professional certificate programs and seven short courses focused on developing talent with in-demand skills and specializations

Cambridge, Mass., January 15, 2019 - MIT Professional Education, a gateway to renowned MIT research, knowledge and expertise through advanced education programs, today announced the launch of two new professional certificate programs, in addition to the existing three professional certificate programs, and seven additional courses for the summer of 2019. The expanded offerings are designed to meet the market demand for talent with specialized technical and engineering leadership skills.


"Virtually every profession is being impacted by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, 3D printing and blockchain. In response, MIT Professional Education is adding several timely courses and certificate programs to our robust portfolio. These new learning options are designed to address the critical skills and specialized knowledge necessary to succeed in a 21st century technology workforce," said Bhaskar Pant, Executive Director of MIT Professional Education.
The new certificate programs include:
o Professional Certificate Program in Biotechnology & Life Sciences - focused on emerging biomanufacturing technology. Designed to build critical, in-demand skills and knowledge for careers in biotechnology and pharmaceutical.
o Professional Certificate Program in Design & Manufacturing - focused on 3D printing, AI and advanced materials. Provides key specializations in technologies impacting the future of manufacturing.
2019 Short Programs now feature the following new courses:
o Inclusive Innovation: Designing for a Better World - explores an evidence-based, innovation-driven, problem-solving approach called Participatory Design. Faculty: Maria Yang, Amy Smith
o Deep Learning for AI and Computer Vision - covers the latest in advanced AI technologies that are enabling smart vision systems to better interpret, reason and react to images. Faculty: Antonio Torralba, Phillip Isola
o Applied Blockchain - features hands-on experience with simulations and exercises to promote the application of blockchain with improved efficiency and safety. Faculty: John R. Williams, Abel Sanchez
o Designing Tomorrow's Cities - spotlights cutting edge research that shows how IoT, AI and Big Data are transforming cities. Faculty: Carlo Ratti, Ricardo Alvarez, Fabio Duarte, Lenna Johnsen
o Design Driven Leadership - teaches a powerful organizational framework and tool set to develop highly-successful products, solutions and services. Faculty: Matthew Kressy
o Advanced Business Resiliency - a next-level follow-on to the prerequisite course, Crisis Management & Business Continuity. Explore real-life case studies to better prepare for emergencies such as data breaches, workplace violence, weather events and more. Faculty: Richard Larson, Steven Goldman
o Ceramics: Device Manufacturing from Energy to AI - focuses on modern ceramic and glass manufacturing, property and device design for energy and information applications. Faculty: Jennifer L.M. Rupp
All courses are taught by leading MIT faculty and take place on-campus in Cambridge, a world-renowned hub for innovation and technology. Learners can take individual 2-5-day short courses or pursue a full Professional Certificate program. The two new certificates both require a minimum of three core courses, one elective and at least 16 days of classroom time over a period of 36 months.
